Hamax Flow is a unisex, multi-purpose junior helmet designed for bicycling and sports. It features a small sun visor, reflective sticker, and strong head support. The modern, sporty design language of the shell signals dynamism and brings the energy typical for the target age group. The sculptural shape and gem-like outlets go beyond pure aesthetics for an optimal balance between safety and air ventilation.
The shell of the resulting helmet features a sequence of robust, angled ribs with inlet vents in the front and outlet vents in the rear. The vents are just wide enough for the passage of air without making the user feel unsafe. The angular shape and carefully distributed holes create a strong structure essential for meeting the various safety requirements and certifications.
When designing the structure, we hand-sketched on top of existing helmets, then copied them to orthogonal views and interpolated to get the shape just right. The transition gave us the chance to work on the project with a hands-on, three-dimensional shape.
We used polygonal modeling, followed by reverse-engineering. The innovative methodology allowed us to short-cut the time consuming and expensive process in a smart way to reach an aggressive production schedule, without sacrificing quality.
