Otokiosk

Making hearing screening part of everyday life

Amplifon X, the business unit of Amplifon dedicated to developing innovative digital solutions, called on our Digital Product Design team to help rethink  of how people access hearing screening in their daily lives.

The project was driven by a clear ambition: reducing the barriers that often prevent people from taking their first hearing assessment.

By bringing certified hearing screening into public environments, Amplifon X revolutionized the landscape with OtoKiosk.

OtoKiosk transforms a traditionally clinical service into an accessible, self-guided experience, making hearing care easier to approach and integrate into everyday routines. The OtoKiosk experience was designed to be approachable regardless of age, language or digital confidence.

An AI-powered conversational avatar guides users throughout the assessment, providing clear instructions and reducing uncertainty at every step.

The interface adopts a minimal visual language, high-contrast elements, scalable typography and clear iconography to support accessibility and ease of use for a broad range of users, including people with visual impairments.

Combining certified audiometric technology with a simple and intuitive digital experience, Otokiosk enables users to independently assess their hearing health while increasing awareness of the importance of prevention and early intervention.

Built around the portability and reliability of iPad technology and certified calibrated headphones, OtoKiosk can be deployed in different formats, from dedicated kiosks to tabletop installations, adapting to a variety of public contexts.

Throughout the project, qualitative usability testing played a key role in validating design choices, identifying friction points and simplifying interactions, ensuring an experience that feels intuitive, inclusive and reassuring.

OtoKiosk represents a scalable approach to hearing care prevention, extending access beyond traditional clinical settings and turning screening into an everyday opportunity.

The project received international recognition with both the UX Design Award and the iF Design Award, highlighting the role of design in making healthcare services more accessible, inclusive and proactive.
