Published annually, the Design Economy report analyzes the Italian design sector, highlighting the relationship between investments in design and the competitiveness of companies. The report also covers the role of design in innovation and design education.
Now in its fourth year, the research maps the relationship between investment in design and competitiveness, a relationship that is quickly becoming a cause-effect relationship rather than a simple correlation. According to research, design improves business performance in terms of both turnover, employees, and exports. The turnover, for example, of the companies that invest in design is on average 15,5% higher (37% vs 22,7%) than the turnover of those that do not invest in design. Interestingly, the role of design in driving competitiveness is even more significant in activities linked to environmental sustainability.
