On My Desk

Gabriel Zangari, Managing & Design Director, DGI NYC

3 October Oct 2017

In this new series, we snoop around our office and raid our co-workers’ desks for tools, materials and other inspiring objects and stories.

Gabriel is our Design and Managing Director in New York. He started our studio in New York in late 2015 and has been representing our design philosophy in the Big Apple ever since. His fascination with design started in college when, as a languages and arts major, he felt that his artistic abilities would be better used if put towards understanding people’s needs and improving the objects around us.

When we asked Gabriel what was on his desk, he paused for a good minute, but then responded, “I am really interested in cutting objects. There seems to be a lot of them around me. Some designed by me and DGI. Some that I have picked up along the way. It feels like a Castiglioni lesson where the maestro would take 20 spoons out of a sack and contemplate every nuance and difference. For me, these scissors all have their own purpose and characters. Like little personalities in a play.”

Of even greater importance are his trusted and prized notebooks.

“After 5 years as design director in Moleskine, you come to appreciate paper and the way it can be your muse, your partner, and your organization tool…. I don’t know what I would do without my notebooks. They are a part of me.”
